Hi Chris, both myself and my husband want to thank you so much for making our special day perfect! Our pictures are amazing and I cannot believe how many I have for the money I spent! I am so pleased with them. You were fantastic on the day, you wouldn't even know you were there! Thanks so much! x

I think you've missed the point of my post here. I'm not trying to trash the phone, just offer a more even view. A lot of sites are praising it very highly because of the hardware they've managed to squeeze into the phone, which in my opinion was a mistake because if they weren't so desperate to grab the headlines with a pointlessly high pixel count then they could have made it so much better.

My opinions are based on what I've seen so far based on the sample images that Nokia have released and they just don't stand up. They are also nowhere near SLR level. Most of the other websites 'sample images' are being solely based on-phone - ie, they're showing you a picture of the phone displaying a picture it's just taken. Not exactly an accurate depiction of image quality. This is probably because they've been able to try it at a show and not able to get the images off the phone.

If you look at the DPReview page here, most of the sample images have been downed to 5MP, and the one that's at full resolution lacks fine detail when viewed at 100% - in fact it looks pretty poor. Definitely not SLR level, and that was it shooting at ISO58. At this low an ISO I would expect the image to be free of noise, so there should have been no noise reduction taking place which would have softened the image, if this is correct then there's only one other cause for the poor details, the lens is being out resolved. Which drives home my point of why did they bother, if they lowered the pixel count it would have been a much better camera. I'm sure when stepped down to the 8MP mark it'll perform admirably and be a contender with a lot of compacts, but 41MP is a waste of pixels and won't be worthwhile.

Chris, you obviously have no clue about the tech, or the results. Have a look at some threads on the DPreview forums where they are actually testing the lenses and sensor versus point and shoots, and the 808 is wiping gthe floor with them. Even at full resolution, 38 or 34, these guys think it SLR quality. And the lens is actually able to resolve all that detail. It's quite a feat, so please test it before you knock it.
